Le started martial arts in Taekwondo at age 10.  And he started wrestling at 14.  He earned All-American honors in his Junior year of High School and went on to wrestle for West Valley College in Saratoga, Ca and won the California Junior College State Championship in the 158lbs weight class in 1990.

Le is a former International Kickboxing Federation light heavywieght Sanda (San Shou) world champion.  Sanda allows striking and takedowns – but no ground work.  His professional Sanda record is 16-0.  He also has an undefeated kick-boxing record of 17-0.

Cung Le is now fighting in the UFC at the age of 40.  Here is a video of Le at age 30 in a Sanda superfight against Scott Sheely.

In this fight Le shows great striking and takedowns and completely dominates his opponent – stopping him in the second round.

Awesome Striking And Takedowns By UFC Fighter Cung Le VIDEO

One takedown Le uses very effectively in this fight is a hip throw set up after a single leg shot.  When his opponent pulls up on the wizzer – Le come up with his underhook… steps across with his hip and executes the throw.

One thing to keep in mind is Cung Le is hitting these throws wearing boxing gloves.

Here is another video of Cung Le.  In this fight against Phil Petit, Le shows excellent transitions between striking and takedowns.

Make sure you see the two awesome takedowns in a row from 5:35 – 5:50 in this video.
